What does a Pilates lesson involve?

Each Pilates session starts with 10-15 minutes of standing ‘warm-up’ exercises to concentrate on posture, breathing awareness and balance.

In the main part of the class most of the exercises are performed on a mat. You will practice tasks lying on your side, on your back or hands and knees positions. If you feel uncomfortable in a position we can change the exercises to suit your needs.

There are 8 principles to Pilates:

Concentration, Breathing, Centering, Control, Precision, Isolation, Flowing, Movements and Routine.

Each class ends with 5 minutes of relaxation technique. Joseph Pilates was ahead of the trend of Mindfulness. We now understand the medical benefits of formally releasing body tension and making time to be physically and mentally calm.

All our teachers have post-graduate training and teaching qualifications through the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute. You will see a consistency in the names and types of exercises, the attention to detail and explanation of the anatomy & physical/medical benefits of each task.

Our teachers also all have interesting and varied backgrounds and experiences, including variously dance, yoga, mindfulness training and pelvic health. We encourage our teachers to also express their individual style and personalities so that you can find the perfect fit for you or enjoy different class experiences.
